Zoey completed her master’s in clinical psychology at Universiti Sains Malaysia-Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (USM-UPSI). She is currently a Full Member of the Singapore Psychological Society (SPS).
Zoey has conducted psychological assessments, neuropsychological assessments as well as individual psychotherapy. Prior to entering private practice with ImPossible, she has worked for over two years in a hospital in Singapore. The experience with working with a large number of patients has provided her with the skills and knowledge in working with children, adolescents, adults, elderly and refugees who were battling with various mental health challenges. These psychological concerns include anxiety, depression, anger issues, insomnia, trauma, obsessions and compulsions, eating issues, self-harm behaviour, suicidal thoughts.
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is her main therapeutic approach as she believes that our thoughts have a significant impact on our emotions and behaviours. During her clinical training, she was supervised and received an in-depth training in CBT from Dr Joel Low, who is the President of Malaysian Society of Clinical Psychology (MSCP). She also supplements her practice with skills from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and has received training in Schema Therapy as well as Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT).
The seeds for her interest in psychology were sown when she was 13 years old, having watched the drama “Every Move You Make” on TV. It made her realise how amazing psychology was, and sparked her interest in all things psychology related. She went on to pursue a psychology degree at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), despite initially not being supported by her parents. During her first year, her late grandmother was diagnosed with depression. This experience further fuelled her passion for psychology, and crystallised her desire to become a clinical psychologist to lend a hand to those in need.
One of the most impactful pieces of feedback from her clients was that she had changed her client’s life and that her client wished she could continue to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those who seek help. She hopes that she will be able to journey with her clients on their paths. Her own humble journey is a constant reminder that life is never a perfectly smooth line, rather an undulating one that rises and falls. However, “where there’s a will, there’s a way”, and if the clients have the will, she is willing to walk with them until she gets them to the end.
In her personal time, Zoey enjoys singing, dancing, acting, watching dramas, and having good food.
Zoey conducts sessions in English, Malay, Mandarin, and Cantonese, through face-to-face sessions in the clinic and via Zoom.
